Westminster Academy Trap Team Competes at State Championship

After a notable showing at the regional competition on June 5, the Westminster Academy trap team advanced to compete at the state shooting championship in Nashville this weekend. In only its second full year after forming, the team boasted several impressive scores and had a strong showing at the state level. Junior Jacob Orellana shot an impressive 92 as the top scorer for the males on the team, and senior Annalise Ellard shot a 90 for the females.

The team was formed and head coached by Keith Warner who was assisted by Greg Kinney and Brian O’Dell. Of the team’s dedication this season, Warner said, “I have never before experienced a whole team’s willingness to work as hard as these shooters have . The time and effort they have dedicated to their sport is truly impressive. Crucial to this team is Assistant Coach Greg Kinney and the support and leadership he has brought to the team. Thanks also to Assistant Coach Brian O’Dell for handling communications. Last but not least, a great group of parents who are incredibly involved and supportive helped create the environment for the team to achieve such success this season.”

Westminster Academy added trap to its array of sports in the 2018-2019 school year, but had to put the season on hiatus in the 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19 restrictions. This season was only the team’s second full season of practice and competition, and they look forward to growing the program after gaining experience at the state level this year. Bravo to the team on their impressive showing!
