This week at Westminster, over 30 pastors and ministers from 16 different churches gathered to attend our annual pastor brunch. Westminster students wrote personal letters to their ministers encouraging them to attend the morning of fellowship, which included a discussion on beauty and art from a biblical perspective. Adam Woods, Head of Upper School, gave the group some great food for thought as he explained how and why the faculty of Westminster approach education in such a unique way. He went on to explain that one of the goals of the school is to form a partnership with churches and families, so that together we can raise up the next generation of faithful, church going believers.

The pastors were able to observe some of the fruits of a classical Christian education as they went on to attend the Upper School Music Challenge. Small groups of students from each house were tasked with putting on a musical performance, which was meant to serve as thanks to God for His provisions. The performances were judged in a variety of categories including melodic and rhythmic accuracy, dynamics, and presentation. The performances serve as a display of beauty that honor the performers’ House, peers, and God. The judges for the competition were local music ministers James Brown and Aaron Powell, local choir directors Joseph and Samantha Powell, and Amy Spicer of Visible Music School.

After much deliberation, Athanasius House was declared the winner, with their performance of How Great Thou Art. In second place was Boniface House with a performance of Like the Dawn. Third place was Columba House with a version of Cages, and fourth place went to Becket House for their performance of Beautiful City.
