Westminster Academy Swimmers Advance to State Competition

The Shelby County swimming championships took place this weekend at the University of Memphis, where hundreds of swimmers from around the city gathered to compete. Three swimmers from Westminster Academy advanced to the finals in their races. Max Baker, Laney Hansen, and Amelia Steiner all qualified in the breast stroke and posted impressive times in their final races. Both Laney and Amelia will advance to the state competition in the 100m breast stroke, with Amelia taking 2nd place overall in the county. This is only the second year for Westminster to have an official swim team, but they’ve really made a splash in the competitive swim community around Memphis.

“It was a very fun weekend, seeing all of our swimmers perform so well,” said Ginger Steiner, who works with the WA swim team. “I was proud of how all of our swimmers practiced diligently and improved over the season.”

The state swimming competition will take place in Knoxville on February 23rd. Good luck, Laney & Amelia!
