What advice or encouragement would you give to younger students at Westminster? Take every opportunity to get to know people and let them know you! Remember that God has placed you here for a reason and you have the ability to show the love of Christ to everyone around you!
Please share a funny memory or highlight from your time at Westminster: The time my class wrote a poem and convinced Dr. Callis to take us on a field trip to Chick-Fil-A in 9th grade.
Senior Thesis Title: Sabbath in Exile: Leisure Banished, Humanity Withering
Senior Thesis Statement: The biblical design for leisure both in implications and practice has been corrupted in the West by cultural stress, a misunderstanding of work, and the development of poor habits that do not cultivate rest. This must be remedied by understanding what rest was designed to look like, how our culture has abused it, and how we can with determination recapture that leisure that restores our souls.
Brief Description of Senior Thesis: Modern Western culture has an issue with their relationship of work and leisure that has been caused by many changes, but especially addictions to technology. This growing issue has become dangerous because our habits reflect our hearts and shape our lives. When we don’t prioritize leisure, we lose part of our soul and our ability to connect to God and to others. Failing to rest well makes us less human. In this paper, I will set forward what went wrong with our rest, what Sabbath was designed to be, and some practical ways we can reorder our lives to value leisure.
Post Graduation Plans: To attend Samford University and study both Christian ministry and journalism.
Favorite Bible Verse: “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)
Prayer Request: Please ask God that I would find a deep community who brings me closer to the Lord; that God would bless my relationships with family and friends even as we are apart; and that I would pursue God faithfully. Pray that God would give me discernment and wisdom as I seek out his will for my life.
