Senior Spotlight: Sarah Catherine Donovan

Favorite Subject: History

Favorite book read at WA: The Hiding Place

Favorite WA tradition: My favorite Westminster tradition is protocol, as it is a unique experience that teaches students valuable etiquette lessons and culminates with a fun night of dinner and dancing!

Senior Thesis Title:
The Importance of Title IX in Its Original Form

Senior Thesis Statement:
Our current culture has misused Title IX in contrast to its original positive intent and accomplishments. This is due to society’s fluctuating use of the word “gender” bringing unintended negative consequences even in light of its positive impact on education and athletics, thus demanding a response from Christians.

Brief Description of Senior Thesis:
Since its creation, Title IX has provided women with a variety of athletic and educational opportunities, but recently, maintaining this document in its original form is untenable. The culturally relevant issue of transgender athletes competing against women undermines the original purpose of Title IX, and calls into question God’s role as creator and author of truth.

Post Graduation Plans:
I intend to major in exercise science on the pre-physical therapy track at the University of Mississippi.

What advice or encouragement would you give to younger students at Westminster?
My biggest piece of advice is not to take for granted the teachers at Westminster. They truly care about each student and genuinely desire to pour into you, both academically and spiritually. They also have a passion for the subject they teach, and are incredible Christian role models; a combination that has set a great example for me for college and beyond.

Please share a funny memory or highlight from your time at Westminster:
One of my favorite memories from my time at Westminster was my 11th grade choir trip to Universal! Spending a couple of days at the theme park was a great bonding experience for us, especially as we were preparing to begin our senior year!

Favorite Bible Verse:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

Prayer Request:
Please pray for me as I adjust to college life and specifically that I would find a strong Christian community and make new friends apart from my classmates from the past 13 years at Westminster.
