Westminster Swim Team Wows in First Season of Competition

The swim team has only been an official part of Westminster athletics for one year, but it is already making a positive impact on the competitive swim community around Memphis. This year, twelve swimmers from 6th – 12th grade participated on the team, and they proved they had what it takes to compete.
“These swimmers had a wide range of skill and ability and I saw each and every one of them ‘drop time’ on their races each week,” said Ginger Steiner, who helps run the WA swim team. “Swimming is awesome because you can forget about who’s racing next to you and can focus on your own personal time and goals you set for yourself. I was proud of how these swimmers braved the cold and practiced diligently.”
Trophies were recently awarded for the season and Westminster walked away with both first and second place wins. In the combined score (male and female), Westminster placed 2nd in the small school division. In the female-only small school division, the swimmers won 1ST PLACE! “Although winning isn’t everything, it was incredible for our girls to win 1st place in the small school division,” said Mrs. Steiner. “The division had 12 other teams so winning first place was awesome for a school that often gets told they don’t offer enough sports.”
Congrats to all of the swimmers who participated this year!
