Making Math and Bible Connections on the First Day!

Mrs. Culp’s class made some incredible connections to math in Bible today!

To give students a mnemonic to remember the number of books in the Old Testament, Mrs. Culp asked them to count the letters in the name “Old Testament.”

What luck! There are 39 books in the OT and the number of the letters in the words are 3 and 9!

A student pointed out that there are 27 books in the New Testament, but Mrs. Culp wasn’t sure about that. She does know that there are 66 books in the whole Bible and that there are 39 in the OT. So Mrs. Culp asked the class, “How can we check to see how many books are in the New Testament?”

“Subtraction!” yelled the class.

And – what do you know? – there are 27 books in the New Testament!
