Help us turn this muddy plot of grass into Westminster’s own garden!
Do you know the best way to get kids to eat more vegetables? Have them help grow them! We want our students to learn more about the life cycle of plants and vegetables by getting their hands dirty in a small vegetable garden. We have received approval from the church to build two 4×8 raised beds as well as plant some flora to make the outside eating area more beautiful. Mr. Kenneth Read will help lead the project, spear-headed by Mrs. Mary Read and Mrs. Sarah Dormois, by overseeing the construction of the beds. The science classes will participate in the planting and care for the beds during the spring semester and we will create a sign-up for parents and staff to rotate during the summer.
How can you help? First, we will have a family work day on SATURDAY, APRIL 18 at 10:00 a.m. to construct the beds and get the plants in the ground. We would love for you all to attend! Wear your work gloves and let’s get dirty! Second, we need to purchase the materials for the beds and would like to add in some purple and gold plants for color; plants such as kerria, azaleas, crepe myrtles, etc. If you can donate the plant or the funds to purchase the plant, Holt Hall would be delighted to add your name to a plaque commemorating your donation. Students might even consider organizing class donations to have a plaque with “Class of __________” in the garden. Possibilities are endless.
