Join us for a morning of exploring our JK-6th grade classrooms. You will have the chance to meet our teachers, students, and parents.

Bringing your little one with you? They can tour with you or play on our playground with us while you learn more about Memphis’ only JK-12th classical Christian school.

The aim of classical Christian education is not to shelter, but to equip students during their formative years to encounter Christ’s truth across all disiplines.

[/et_pb_testimonial][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″][et_pb_toggle _builder_version=”3.19.4″ title=”How do I know if there are available spots in my child’s grade?”]

Each fall, we have approximately 30 spots for new junior and senior kindergarten students. Other grades may have select openings. We will know exactly where those openings are by Feb. 1 and will extend admission contracts to applicants in our accepted wait pool.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle _builder_version=”3.19.4″ title=”What is a wait pool?”]

We are so very grateful for the Lord’s blessing for Westminster Academy with an increasing enrollment and interest in our school. As a result, some of our classes are currently full, however, we still want to encourage families who have interest in our school! Please submit an application so your student can be placed in our wait pool. Through the application process, we will be able to get to know you and your family better. Should spots become available, they will be filled from the pool of applicants with completed packets in the Wait Pool. We very much look forward to meeting you and partnering with you on this important journey!

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle _builder_version=”3.19.4″ title=”What are the admission deadlines & timeline?”]

For first round admissions, all required documents, testing, and shadow day visits must be submitted by Feb. 1, 2020. The first round of new student contracts for the 2020-2021 school year will be extended on Feb. 15, 2020. After that, we will consider applications on a rolling basis, as space allows.

On the fence about sending your little one to an independent school?

Our junior kindergarten and kindergarten programs are academic half-days with an option for extended afternoon care until 3:00 p.m. Young children learn best through self-discovery, and reserach shows that students are only confident to explore the unknown when in a safe and loving environment. All of our teachers are believers with extensive expertise in their fields who strive to fill their classrooms with joy, love, and encouragement.

At this stage, play is their work. We know a quality education acknowledges the innate curiosity of children and their desire to master their environment. We understand that children have different interests and learning styles and may progress at different rates. The mornings are full of fine arts, Scripture, language arts, and math. Your little one will learn manuscript writing through “Handwriting Without Tears,” which emphasizes fine and gross motor skills readiness, and then transition to a multi-sensory phonics program to continue developing those skills along with reading-readiness. Play-based centers invite them to a world of imagination and self-directed play. They have opportunities to engage in art, music, dramatic play, messy play, and sensory exploration.

The Grammar School years (grades 2nd – 6th) are times of wonder, excitement, and adventure as young children discover a world that is new to them. In classical education, emphasis is placed on our students’ language development to graduate virtuous and articulate citizens. In the grammar stage, young children become conscious of the world around them: they mimic, mime, and repeat what they hear. Students
naturally imitate what they see and hear, so we create opportunities for students to learn about literature, music, science, and art. By nourishing students on the great ideas of the past, we form their souls to “love that which is worth loving.” As students mature and approach the middle school years, they want to dissect ideas, analyze arguments, seek justice, and discover the reasoning behind everything. Debate and logic become important tools for students in the logic stage, so what better way to channel this natural development than to train them in formal logic and debate classes? Teachers engage students in discussion and debate, training students to make logical arguments, helping them tell the difference between a logical and emotional response, and educating them in polite discourse.
